How squares payouts work

The pot is the price per square times the number of squares. It is then divided across the four results: the 1st quarter, halftime, the 3rd quarter and the final score. Each result pays the owner of that winning square. The four percentages should add up to 100.

Popular payout splits

  • 25 / 25 / 25 / 25. Every result pays the same. Simple and easy to explain.
  • 20 / 20 / 20 / 40. The final pays double, so the whole game matters.
  • 20 / 30 / 20 / 30. Halftime and the final pay the most.
  • Halftime and final only. A simple option for small pools, such as 50 / 50.

Common questions

How much is the pot in football squares?

Multiply the price per square by the number of squares sold. A full 100-square board at $5 a square is a $500 pot, and a full 25-square board at $5 is $125.

What is the most common football squares payout?

The most common split pays all four results equally, 25% each. Another popular choice pays more for the final score, such as 20%, 20%, 20% and 40%. A third gives halftime and the final the biggest prizes: 20%, 30%, 20% and 30%.

What if not every square is sold?

The pot only counts the squares that were paid for. Either fill the board before the game or work out the pot from the squares actually sold. A board is usually not played until it is full.

Should the final pay more than the quarters?

That is up to your group. Paying the final more rewards the squares that survive the whole game, while an equal split keeps every quarter exciting. Either way, agree on it before the squares are claimed.

What if two results land on the same square?

The owner wins both prizes. With 100 squares and four results it happens now and then, and it is part of the fun.

Does SquaresBets hold the money?

No. SquaresBets never handles or moves anyone's money. A host collects from the group and pays the winners directly. The host panel keeps track of who has paid and shows each quarter's prize.
