Privacy

Last updated October 21, 2026

SquaresBets is built to need as little personal information as possible. There are no player accounts, no passwords, and no advertising or tracking cookies. Here is what we do handle.

What we store

  • Boards. The board's title, teams, size and price, the host's optional note, the squares and the names players type when they claim them, the numbers, and the scores. A secret host key protects the host's controls. Please don't type anything sensitive into a board.
  • Player and host names. Only the display name someone types. It is saved on the board, and remembered on that person's own device so they don't have to retype it.
  • Payment records. For paid features, Stripe handles your card details. We never see or store your card number. We keep Stripe's identifiers for the payment or subscription (such as which board was unlocked, or which Pro account a subscription belongs to), so we can switch features on and off correctly.
  • Referral links. If you arrive through a partner's link (an address with ?ref= and their name), we remember that name on your own device for 60 days and send it along when you make a board or pay for something, so the partner who shared SquaresBets can be credited. It is not used to follow you around or to build a profile of you.
  • Partner applications. If you apply to be a partner, we keep the details you type in the form (your name, email, a link to where people find you, your audience and how you would promote SquaresBets) so we can review your application and reply. We don't use them for anything else.
  • Pro accounts. The name, web address, logo and color you choose, the email address you gave Stripe (kept as the account's contact address and used to send your welcome email and for support), and your staff code.

What we don't store

  • If you enter an email address when creating a board, it is used once to send you your links and is not saved or logged by SquaresBets.
  • We don't sell your information, and we don't run ads or advertising trackers.

Visit counts

We use Vercel Web Analytics to see how many people visit and which pages they look at, along with rough information such as country, device type and where the visit came from. It does not use cookies and does not follow you from one website to another. We take care that it never sees anything private: the address of a particular board is counted as just “a board”, and anything after a question mark or hash in an address (which can carry private details) is dropped before it is sent. The pages only the site owner uses are not counted at all.

On your device

The site uses your browser's local storage (not tracking cookies) to remember things for you on that device: your theme choice, the name you last used, host keys for boards you run, and a venue's staff code once entered. Clearing your browser data removes them.

Services that help us run the site

  • Vercel hosts the website and provides the cookie-free visit counts described above.
  • Supabase stores the data.
  • Stripe processes payments.
  • Resend delivers the emails we send.
  • BallDontLie provides the sports scores and stats. We send it game information only, never anything about you.

Like any website, our hosting providers may see technical details such as your IP address and browser when you visit, and keep ordinary server logs.

How long we keep things

Boards are deleted automatically after 90 days with no activity, or after 14 days if nobody ever claimed a square. We keep payment and Pro account records for as long as the account exists and as needed for bookkeeping and legal reasons.

Your choices

To have a board, a Pro account or other information about you removed, or to ask what we hold, contact us. The site is not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If we change how we handle information we will update this page and its date.
